If I wanted to save money on web hosting services could I essentially host my website on my own computer?

Question by Eric: If I wanted to save money on web hosting services could I essentially host my website on my own computer?
I was curious if it was possible to turn a regular pc into a server for web hosting and would a special connection to the internet be required like maybe a T1 connection? Any special software needed for something like this? I know the computer would have to be turned on all the time but that’s not a big issue for me.

Technically you could, but the connection would be an issue. Its better to go with a web hosting company if you were thinking about getting a T1 connection. Another thing you could do is host your computer in a data center, you would have a dedicated machine this way, but it could be expensive still.

Check out justhost.com. I believe its for two years with domain. You would need to use a coupon, 50OFF i believe is the coupon.

Also depending on if you want a simple site or not you could use google apps.

You could register a domain, something like a year. Then use google apps and create a site there.

Standard is free. Youll get your own email, calendar to use, you can create sites etc..

Running a Web Hosting Company

Web hosting is one of the fastest growing businesses as every website that is created, needs a web host to host their website and thereby create its presence on the World Wide Web. Since the demands of web hosting are constantly on the rise, people are looking at the web hosting business as highly lucrative. Web hosting is indispensable and its requirements are constantly on the rise. The Internet is flooded by websites related to information, education, entertainment, businesses and much more and people are turning to the Internet for all the versatile aspects that it has to offer. A web hosting company therefore has acquired an accelerated impetus to catch up on the needs of the web masters and offer the best services and high-end technologies. Furthermore, with the birth of web hosting, the geographical limitations have completely been eliminated. So the online services can be offered and availed from just about any part of the globe.

A web host provider must therefore be equipped with all information related to web hosting technology, customer requirements, web hosting market trends and thereby keep apace with the latest in the web hosting industry. The technical skills of the web hosting provider would definitely come to good use once they have established a quality web hosting company for themselves. This knowledge will help the provider establish a strong base for their web hosting business. It is equally important to keep abreast with the trends in the web hosting industry and making modifications in order to offer the best and superior services to their discerning customers. Therefore, a basic knowledge of the technical skills related to web hosting becomes imperative in the business of web hosting.

Furthermore, the customers are ensured of the fact that they are dealing with a capable company and this is absolutely essential for an operable web hosting business.

Once the web-hosting provider has amassed a good customer base; a regular and steady income is sure to flow in. The web-hosting provider on the hand is required to consistently offer quality and superior services, tools, applications and technical support in order to sustain and enhance this income.

The downside of the business that the web-hosting provider may have to experience is fierce competition in the web hosting industry. More and more web-hosting companies emerge daily and offer very cheap pricing structures. This could put a spanner in the wheel for some hosting providers, as few customers would prefer a cheap deal even if the support and quality of services offered by these companies is not too great. So the key to successful web hosting is to offer quality and great services at competitive prices. The initial investment would include expense on the hardware, software, infrastructure expenses, advertising, promotion, and merchant fees.

Initially, the web hosting provider may have to be prepared for a uphill job as the they may no or only a handful of clients and the company would be responsible for bearing all these expenses.

Top Hosting Center is a Web 2.0 hosting company: committed to user satisfaction and full service transparency. This is a new business concept in the web hosting industry and a much needed approach. As part of its business strategy, THC has chosen to give out the most affordable web-hosting plan ever: a one-time web-hosting flat fee – $ 95 USD for a hosting plan that lasts for life: http://www.tophostingcenter.com/rudolf.html – “Rudolf Special 2007.”

Only 1000 Rudolf plans are available. Each of these plans includes: blog tailored hosting with 250 GB disk space; 3000 GM bandwidth; 1 FREE domain registration – for life: .com,.net,.info,.org,.us; unlimited MySQL; PHP4 and all the features of a Top Hosting Special plan in one hosting package: flat-fee $ 95 USD for life. From a user’s perspective that means no more monthly worries about paying for web hosting. Ever. Compared to any other web-hosting plan on the web this is by far the most affordable and it has all the features needed for a website to make a solid web presence.

“This plan has a special introductory price,” says CEO Eric Vanier. “This is not a cheap hosting plan as many might be tempted to believe. It is purely affordable and in this case affordability no longer means cheap or undercut services. Of course it is a marketing move, but most importantly, it is a huge opportunity for 1000 people to get professional hosting for merely a symbolic fee. We want people to know that THC means serious business!”

A standard web hosting plan at THC (which includes all the features mentioned above) costs $ 60 USD per year. On a long term Rudolf will bring financial savings and no more worries about paying yearly for the hosting, domain, upgrade fees and so on. Rudolf also comes with free setup and can be purchased as Linux or Windows. Users can run any application on their servers and park as many domains as they like too. A perfect web hosting solution for any budget.
