I first find out what the client will be doing with their web site, and where they intend on going with it for the future. This determines what they will need from a hosting site.

Usually I steer them towards Canaca.com, which offers a wide range of options for a very reasonable rate.

Local support, cost and reliability. You didn’t ask, but I have used digitalspace.net for years for the web domains that I maintain. They are very inexpensive a year, and the support has been fantastic. Good luck.

You don’t need a hosting service. You need someone to build you a website or build it yourself. From what you describe it will not be cheap.

It would be a purely PHP site with a MySQL database. I currently am working with a client on building a newspaper and classifieds etc… What you need to do is create a database in MySQL. Two tables for the users and the videos. Use PHP to verify a column in the users table that counts credits for video views. Store video paths (where on the server /video/) in the video table. They buy credits via paypal and after payment is recieved it will add credits to the users column under his primary key in the table.

Any host will work as long as they offer a Linux server with PHP and MySQL. I use Godaddy for price and efficiency. You will need to host your own videos so get a lot of bandwidth. Hosting them n youtube or anywhere else is a mess when you are charging for them.

At the same time the online services upgrade, the design tools upgrade and the designers knowledge upgrade too! I don’t think it’s getting bad to the designer, because people like exclusivity and still there are many people who doesn’t have any knowledge about design skills.

Other thing about hosts: I know they are getting cheaper, but they’re getting less secure and worst, in everything… (own experience).

Well, if you been prejudiced, build a host company XD
